Pimping

My last few blogs have been a bit grumpy and angry, so in reparation, this blog is all about other people and their wonderfully funny things. You should go and see at least one of these shows because they really are the pick of the crop.

Tara Flynn’s Big Noise

22nd October 2010: The Etcetera Theatre, Camden, London

10th November 2010: Comedy Box, Sheehan’s of Chatham Street, Dublin.

If you didn’t manage to catch this in Edinburgh, then here is your chance.

It is a rare thing for a comedy song to make you laugh from your belly. Mostly they make you smile whimsically or stare at the microphone stand. However during this show you’ll laugh your arse off at some of the most hilarious comic songs ever crafted and sung by the brilliant Tara Flynn.

Los Quattros Cunts

3rd November 2010, The Phoenix, Cavendish Square, London

If you like men being incredibly funny on a stage, then you should head down to The Phoenix where Michael Legge, Paul Litchfield, Jeremy Limb and Dan Mersh will be doing just that. Sketches, stand-up, improvised shouting and special guests are all on the menu. So grab your coat, you’ve pulled (some comedy).

Jim Bob

24th November 2010 Dingwalls, Camden Lock, London.

Sweet Jebus! This is going to be a good night.

If Jim Bob off of Carter USM accompanied by The Mystery Fax Machine Orchestra isn’t enough. Then the cast of ‘Gutted – A Revengers Musical’ singing some of the best numbers from the show, will make this one of the most exciting evenings of the year.

Dean Clough Comedy Night

Viaduct Café, Dean Clough, Halifax

Ha! Yes, there is some comedy outside of ‘that there’ London.

At one time there were two comedy nights in Halifax: a good one and the other. The other died after I performed a my sets about breeding horny pandas by getting Ron Jeremy to fuck their mums – it needed work.

This is the good one and over the last twelve months Robin Ince, Andre Vincent, Lucy Porter, Pete Firman and Andrew O’Neill have all done their acts in the rather stylish cafe .  It is also the venue where I saw Robin Ince frighten a heckler into submission. This is still one of my favourite comedy nights as a punter, because I can grab a bottle of wine for £8 and get gently pissed at the back of the room while being entertained by funny people. Which – I think you will agree – is not shit.

This month: Gordon Southern, Stephen Grant & Dan Nightingale

Martin Wolfenden

Back in the early days of this Century, I made some money by saying the odd funny thing in public. On one of these occasions a fellow funny talker told me that I should write a blog (because that was the sort of thing funny talking people did back then.) Now, I’m not the sort of person who does things the easy way, so I rejected all the ready made blogging platforms and started my own website. Since then it’s become a repository for whatever stuff is bubbling out of my brains and a directory of various podcasts and videos that I’ve made with my friends and is completely unnecessary.
